Being a fresher at Delta State University (Delsu) can be a fun, exhilarating, and challenging experience. Gaining admission into the university brings with it the thrill of new beginnings, but it also brings with it the reality check of adjusting to campus life in Delsu. If you’re a fresher or have been one, here are seven experiences I have passed through as a student, which you’ll undoubtedly recognise!
1. The Joy When You’re Finally Offered Admission
Getting that DELSU admission letter is pure joy! After weeks and months of preparation for Delsu post-UTME exams and nervously waiting for Delsu to announce the release of the admission list. The moment you see your name and you’re instructed to proceed with payment of the acceptance fee, it’s quite exhilarating and common to hear a heartfelt “Thank you, God”! It doesn’t just stop here; make sure to continue reading, and I will give you a funny story of mine after I got admission into Delsu.

2. You, Buying and Paying for Everything Because You Just Got Your Allowance
Ah, the excitement of receiving your first allowance! Yes, you’ll feel like you have enough money to flex and get whatever you want, until you realise everything is expensive and the money disappears like it never touched your account. School expenses are on a different level, so it will be good advice to spend wisely and save for the “rainy days” unless you’re a Nepo baby.
You don’t want to get to the point where you start calculating how to survive the rest of the month, and just in case you’re looking for ways to survive, make sure you read this article below so you can be saved from forthcoming sapa.

3. DELSU AND Long Queue
If there’s one thing every DELSU fresher knows, it’s the long queues. Whether you’re screening or collecting your school ID card, the wait seems never-ending. Standing for hours under the scorching sun becomes a rite of passage, and trust me, the sun is something every DELSUITE knows about!
I remember trekking under the hot sun from the small gate down to my faculty, and I walked down to the big gate to enter transport back to the small gate because I did not know where the small gate was located, and I passed it earlier on.
4. The Struggle of “Paying to Charge”
When there’s no light anywhere, especially during the rainy season, you’ll find yourself at the mercy of those “Pay to Charge” shops near small gate. You pay a small fee just to charge your phone or laptop, and it becomes a regular part of your life.
5. Asking for Directions, But Still Getting Lost
You’ll approach fellow students with hopes of getting clear guidance, but somehow, even after following their instructions, you still end up confused and lost.
If you’re still here reading this, you will notice I dropped my story, which is related to getting confused about directions in number 3. It’s just part of the life as a fresher in Delsu! You’ll get used to the campus with time.
6. The Chaos of Trying to Get a Bed Space at Campus 3
Obtaining hostel accommodation, whether on campus or off, presents a significant challenge, as many students opt to live near their school to cut down on transportation costs. This belief in the superiority of Campus 3 hostels often leads to intense competition and lengthy waiting lists.
7. Wrong Document Arrangement During Screening exercise
Arranging your documents wrongly during screening can actually annoy those screening officers, and you won’t like to be a victim of that because you might be chased constantly to go back home until you get the arrangement correctly.
For this process to be seamless and less stressful for you, the schoolcafe community will offer you proper guidance on how you can go through your admission process, which makes life easier for every student!
